News | De Ruwenberg achieved platinum status from IACC Green Star
Published: April 15, 2024
De Ruwenberg achieved platinum status of IACC Green Star in April! International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist organizations in finding the most productive meeting locations worldwide. These facilities represent the best locations in terms of quality. The organization has created the Green Star certification to award a sustainability label to its affiliated locations.
About Green Star
The Green Star is an environmental policy statement and covers a wide range of environmental and sustainability standards, making it a highly recognized accreditation. To benefit from this important environmental initiative, the IACC requires members to register for the first time or update their previous compliance with the Code. The Sustainability Code is valid for two years and must be renewed biannually.
IACC has a strict sustainability code that includes 60 principles in the following areas:
- Education, awareness and public declaration
- Waste management
- Recycling
- Re-use
- Water conservation
- Purchase
- Power management
- Air quality
- Eat Drink
IACC periodically reviews and updates the Code to ensure it reflects state-of-the-art best practices. When IACC members sign the Sustainability Code, they declare that their location supports the IACC’s environmental policies and work with other members to pursue more sustainable, environmentally responsible industry policies and practices.
Members are required to annually update the status of their compliance with the applicable principles of the Code and IACC offers three levels of participation. Members who achieve 100% of the Code are eligible for the Platinum level; those who achieve 85% qualify for the Gold Tier; and those who achieve 75% qualify for the Silver Tier.
Sustainability and De Ruwenberg
At De Ruwenberg, sustainability isn’t just a word – it’s a core value. From energy-efficient facilities, to food waste reduction initiatives, we strive to create more environmentally responsible meeting spaces and hotel stays. For example, last year we invested more than a million euros in sustainability projects, such as hot water boilers with solar collectors, installing new electric charging points, solar panels, heat recovery system, optimal waste separation, monitoring food waste reduction and much more. We try to make our guests aware of their carbon footprint and, for example, they have the opportunity to plant trees by not making use of the housekeeping service (Hotel for Trees).
