Sustainability

Sustainable hotel and meeting venue near Den Bosch

Thinking beyond tomorrow

Here by the Dommel River, we see every day why nature deserves our care. That's why De Ruwenberg Estate has been investing in sustainability for years, from solar panels on the roofs to local produce in the kitchen. We do that together with our guests, staff and partners. The Green Key Gold certificate shows that we go further than the law requires.

How we're making the estate more sustainable

  • Zonnenpanelen op het congrescentrum Landgoed De Ruwenberg.

    Energy and water

On the roofs are 176 solar panels. Together they generate more than 70,000 kWh a year, enough to supply more than 4,500 hotel guests with our own electricity. The roof is insulated, so it stays warmer inside in winter and cooler in summer.

In 2024, a new climate system with heat recovery was installed. Heat or cooling left over in one room is sent to another, so nothing is lost. You set the temperature in your room yourself. The boilers heat the water with solar energy, and only use gas for the last 5 degrees.

LED lighting throughout the building uses 90% less energy. All taps and shower heads are water-saving, so we use 20 to 30% less water without you noticing.

  • Ontbijt op het landgoed met duurzame producten.

    Responsible purchasing

Most of the food we serve travels fewer than 300 food miles. Whatever doesn't come from the region, we buy organic or Fairtrade. We also work with products from De Verspillingsfabriek, which fights food waste.

Outside the kitchen, we choose carefully too. Cleaning products, toilet paper and tissues carry a sustainability label, and where possible we pick eco-friendly products.

    Involved in the area

De Ruwenberg Estate is part of Sint-Michielsgestel and the region, and we're glad to contribute. We sponsor local sports clubs, support charity dinners and concerts, and make rooms or lunches available to older people and families dealing with illness.

    How you can contribute

As a guest, you can easily contribute too. Staying several nights? Hang the green Hotels for Trees door hanger on your door. Your room isn't cleaned that day, and a tree is planted instead.

Coming by electric car? There are 42 charging points in the car park, and you can charge your e-bike in the covered bicycle shed. Exploring the area by bike is emission-free, and you can hire a bike at reception.

For years, De Ruwenberg Estate has held the Green Key Gold certificate. Green Key is an international label for sustainable businesses in leisure and hospitality. The certificate has three levels: bronze, silver and gold. The more measures a venue takes, the higher the level.
